Good evening everyone.
Today I have a great deal of news to report, and a great deal to say. First off: for those of you not already aware, I have had to return home for treatment of a physical condition. We are hoping that this return will be temporary and hopefully last no more than a couple of months. I flew home Thursday and have enjoyed seeing the new home. (My parents moved to Kanab, Utah in June.)
Three weeks ago I passed the “year mark” of my mission. It’s quite incredible to think that I was out on my mission, without usual comforts, spending every hour with the same person, working for the Lord for a full year. I was able to learn a lot, and I am so incredibly grateful for all of the opportunities I had to spend time with people whose backgrounds, life experiences, and perspectives are significantly different than my own. While missionary work may immediately bring to mind the idea of teaching, a great deal of it is also listening. Seeing the diverse ways that the Gospel of Jesus Christ has blessed the people of the Earth has been an incredibly instructive experience and I am very glad for all of the people I have been able to meet.
I have many takeaways from my time serving as a missionary that I’d like to share, but what I will likely do is write up my thoughts for next week so that I can have more time to collect my thoughts.
I was extremely gratified that the Lord allowed me to serve long enough to stay through a baptism that we had last week! It was awesome being able to see our friend choose to take such an important step in life, deciding to embark in the path of following God. It was a wonderful end to my first round of service as a missionary. I sincerely hope that I will be allowed to return to complete my service after I have healed.
I hope you are all doing well. God bless.

I love those thoughts about listening. That makes so very much sense, but I believe you are right, we don't think or talk about that very much when considering preparing for a mission. Thank you for the wonderful insight. I hope your healing goes well and that you will be prepared to continue serving the Lord in all important and edifying ways ahead if you.
